RITTINGS® is an English-designed outdoor brand conceived as a complete range of hunting, fishing, and outdoor luggage and clothing.

The concept reflects a return to the founder’s earliest design instincts, heritage equipment made from traditional materials, built for real outdoor use, and grounded in authentic British craftsmanship.

The Brand

RITTINGS® was conceived as a full outdoor lifestyle range combining practical durability with classic heritage aesthetics.

The brand focuses on equipment designed for hunting, fishing, travel, and outdoor pursuits, developed with a philosophy that values authenticity, reliability, and timeless design over seasonal fashion.

Traditional materials such as canvas and robust textiles form the backbone of the concept, reinforcing the brand’s connection to established outdoor traditions.

The intention behind RITTINGS® was to create a coherent outdoor identity where equipment, luggage, and clothing share a unified design language rooted in practical use and long-term durability.

The Original Inspiration

Martin Ritter had already been working within the musical instrument industry when, in 1996, he temporarily stepped away to explore a different design direction.

At that time he developed a range of English heritage luggage manufactured in the North East of England, inspired by traditional outdoor equipment used for hunting and fishing. These products were built using classical materials such as canvas and heavy-duty textiles and reflected a strong connection to British outdoor craftsmanship.

This exploration of heritage luggage and functional outdoor equipment became an important design reference point.

Shortly afterwards, Martin Ritter returned to the musical instrument industry where he developed the concept for the eponymous instrument bag brand he founded in 1996, a brand that went on to significantly change how musical instrument bags and cases are designed, perceived, and valued worldwide.

RITTINGS® represents a return to that earlier outdoor design philosophy, reconnecting with the heritage materials, rugged functionality, and understated character that originally inspired his work.

The Product Concept

RITTINGS® was envisioned as a complete outdoor equipment system including:

  • hunting and fishing luggage
  • outdoor travel and expedition bags
  • protective storage and equipment carriers
  • outdoor lifestyle accessories
  • heritage-inspired outdoor clothing

The range was intended to remain focused and coherent, emphasising long-lasting construction, practical functionality, and recognisable design character.

The Founder

RITTINGS® was conceived by Martin Ritter.

His career spans several decades within the international product and design industry and combines musical training, creative authorship, and global commercial experience.

From early classical piano studies and composition, his path developed through music retail, product management, brand creation, and international distribution. Over time he became widely recognised for his ability to combine design identity with practical product function.

In 1996 he founded and created an eponymous instrument bag brand that permanently changed how musical instrument bags and cases are designed, perceived, and valued worldwide. The brand introduced design authorship and strong visual identity into a product category previously dominated by purely functional equipment.

Later work expanded into a portfolio of distinctive brands and heritage projects exploring different expressions of protection, identity, and lifestyle design.

RITTINGS® stands as a continuation of the outdoor heritage design direction that originally inspired part of this journey.

Due to serious health-related circumstances, Martin Ritter later stepped back from active commercial engagement. This site therefore exists as a preserved reference and does not define the conclusion of his work.
